is for anyone who wants to learn more about astronomy events, cosmology, planets, galaxies, asteroids, astrophotography, the Big Bang, black holes. One of the biggest problems for ground based astronomy today is. A. All the best mountains already have telescopes on them. B. Atmospheric pollution has significantly worsened the seeing. C. Space-based observatories are making most of the observations. D. Light pollution makes it difficult to observe faint objects.

The Skylab Ground-Based Astronomy Program is designed to obtain solar data from observatories around the world at the same time the ATM instruments are observing the Sun from orbit. Data gathered on the ground will support and add to the space-gathered data and thus help gain maximum benefit from the ATM.   As it also includes a chapter on "GROUND-BASED ASTRONOMY IN AN INTEGRATED NATIONAL PROGRAM", this might have been the first coherent "vision" of space- and ground-based astronomy programs (the decadal report was entitled "Ground-based Astronomy: A Ten-Year Program").

The LSST Education and Public Outreach (EPO) program is working to involve classrooms, citizen scientists and the general public as deeply in big data astronomy as they want (or dare) to . Since the constellations are named after many characters in Greek mythology, D’Aulaires Greek Myths is a great resource to have on hand with this program. The Book of Astronomy was developed with 3rd graders in mind, but it can be used with older students just as well.
